Thursday 17th August - Dunkeld to Melbourne

semi-overcast 14 °C

Thursday 17th August - Dunkeld to Melbourne.

As we only had 270kms to do today, we had a lateish start. Packed up, then had breakfast in the cafe where we were staying. I checked the rear tyre as it was down to the wear bars in Adelaide. Now it's showing some canvas belts so I decided to nurse it to Melbourne and home. I'll keep to 80kph all the way. Wet roads to start the day, but the sky was fine. We decided to go straight to Melbourne instead of sightseeing. East through Lake Bolac and Skipton, and Ballarat by lunch time. Seemed to dodge all the showers but a big storm was following us, so we stopped at a Roadhouse on the highway near Bacchus Marsh for some lunch And let it past. Checked the rear tyre again and no further wear noticeable. A bit of a detour via Melton to get off the busy freeway, and we were at Andrew and Edi's place by 3:30 pm.
Edi cooked us a superb meal and after some reminiscing about the trip and a few reds, we hit the sack.
Easy day and happy the rear tyre is still holding together.
